All of the grapes for this Village wine were carefully harvested by hand from our own vineyards in Kumeu, and following crushing and destemming, the grapes were fermented on skins for an extended maceration period of three weeks. After malo-lactic fermentation was completed, the wine was racked into French oak barriques and matured for one year before egg-white fining and bottling. The nose has lovely plum fruit notes, together with the earthy, animal-fur, leather, game, tobacco and coffee aromas that are typical of ripe Merlot. On the palate we have richness, warmth and weight, with a full tannic finish. This wine will improve for another year or so in the bottle, but it is also very good for immediate drinking. It is an ideal accompaniment for full-flavoured meat dishes or pasta.
